Space Orbiter
3 Colors. 1 Button. 0 Ways Out.
Space Orbiter is a minimalist physics-based survival game created for the Frene Jam 2. Your mission is simple: orbit an unstable sun for as long as possible. In the cold vacuum of space, gravity is a patient hunter, and eventually, it always wins.
The experience focuses on a "Hard Sci-Fi" atmosphere where every thruster burst matters and your momentum is your only ally.
🕹️ Gameplay
- Orbital Survival: Balance your inertia to avoid being swallowed by the sun or flung into the deep void.
- Energy Collection: Gather stars to temporarily boost your thruster power or stabilize the sun’s gravitational pull.
- High Score Loop: There is no victory condition—only the time you manage to survive before the inevitable "System Shutdown."
🛠️ Jam Constraints & Design
This project was built following three strict modifiers to explore Game Feel and Polish:
- One Button: The entire game is playable using only one button (Space by default).
- Tri-chromic: The art direction is strictly limited to Black, White, and Orange, powered by a custom gradient shader.
- You Can't Win This: A pure survival loop where the difficulty scales until your final shutdown.
Developer’s Note: If you spot "Space Orbital" on the title screen, just know that gravity was so strong it pulled the letters away during the final export. Let's call it a "feature" of cosmic instability! 😅
⚙️ Technical Specs & Accessibility
As a Game Design student specializing in Tech Art and Programming, I utilized this jam to focus on high-quality feedback:
- Customization: Includes a fully functional Key Binding system in the menu—because comfort matters, even in minimalism.
- Engine: Developed using Unity (C#).
- Polish: Features heavy focus on screenshake and audio immersion to enhance the tactile feel of space flight.
Play directly in your browser (WebGL) or download the Windows version for the best audio/visual experience.
